Resistance School: Know Your Rights / How to Copwatch

POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Two free trainings from Resistance School

Know Your Rights (10:00-12:00):
Everyone needs to know what their rights are when dealing with the police. This training teaches how to assert your constitutional rights using real-life scenarios to educate in a fun and accessible way. Learn what to say and what not to say when stopped by the police, how to act in jail, and more.

How To Copwatch (1:00-3:00):
This workshop covers good practices for “copwatching”, or video recording the police. Copwatching can provide important evidence of police misconduct, and sometimes even stop cops from abusing people in the first place. It’s important, but can be risky without preparation. This training prepares you to record the cops in a safe, legal, and effective way. Learn how to work in a small team to monitor police activity during large protests or everyday encounters in the neighborhood.

POTLUCK+SCREENING FUNDRAISER FOR J20 INAUGURATION DEFENDANTS

On January 20th, 230 people were mass arrested during demonstrations against Donald Trump’s Inauguration.

The arrests were made by use of a “kettle” technique of individuals on the corners of L and 12th Street, without orders to disperse. 214 of these arrestees were charged under the Federal Riot Statute. On April 27th, multiple additional felony charges were added. The 211 remaining defendants could now face up to 75 years in prison.

Resistance School: Online Anonymity Techniques

A Resistance School workshop.

The internet is a highly surveilled environment. Governments and corporations track our communications and activity online as a way to analyze, influence, and neutralize our resistance movements. Stalkers, fascists, and trolls try to intimidate and threaten us by compromising our anonymity.

We can fight back! Learn how tools like Tor and Tails work, and how to use them to protect your anonymity online.

Jail support training

February 9, 2017 – 7:00 pm

Atlanta, GA

What do you do if your friends and comrades are arrested? Come learn from our experience

  • planning for arrests at protests,
  • bailing people out of Atlanta jails,
  • helping them navigate the court system,
  • and more!

The prison industrial complex is a key weapon of the system, so jail support is a crucial part of any movement. It’s a way to show that we can and will take care of each other even in the face of repression.

Support free stores!

Our free store is looking great today, thanks to contributions from a community of people who share extra food, clothes, and whatever else they have available.

For those who don’t know, a free store is a place where everything is available for free.  If you have extra things, you can bring them to the free store to share.  If you need any of the things there, you can take them.  No money or trading is allowed, a free store runs on mutual aid.

Our free store is on our porch, and it works amazingly well because of the community which participates in it.  Plenty of people take time to bring donations, because they know their contribution will go directly in the hands of someone who can use it.  The free store helps a lot of our poorer neighbors get access to healthy food, which they can share in turn with their friends and family.

Most weeks we circulates between 1/2 and 1 ton of fresh food, provided by donors and volunteers who pick up and transport it.  We also see plenty of clothes, books, and other miscellany filter through, brought by neighbors who are moving or getting rid of old stuff.

If you like this idea, you can help out in a few ways:

  • Start a free store where you are!  If you have access to a publicly accessible room or building, let us know and we can help.
  • Volunteer to pick up food donations for our free store. This is a big help. Get in touch and we can let you know when and where pick-ups are scheduled.
  • Spread the word and encourage everyone to contribute!
